Stuff about working with animals (and people!). The thoughts and experiences of an aspiring vet student.
About me
I'm a thirty-something Irish woman who has spent far too long sitting behind a computer in an air-conditioned office in a big city. To fix this I decided to leave my nice comfy permanent job in software development and go back to school so that I can (eventually!) apply to vet school, and once qualified spend my days up to my welly-tops in cow dung (/up to my shoulder in cow), in barns and fields out in the countryside. Well that's the big plan anyway.
I've studied A2 level biology and AS level maths at Hackney Community College, regularly being mistaken for a teacher instead of a sixth-former. I also completed an intensive chemistry A-level in the evenings at Hammersmith, Ealing and West London college. So I've now finished biology and chemistry, so by June 2012 when I finsh A2 maths I will have all of the academic requirements for my vet school application out of the way, phew! In between all that I freelance as a software test/QA analyst to earn a crust, and spend weeks at a time away gaining animal-related work experience and seeing practice. The other three days of the year I can be found as far away as possible from London, on either a motorcycle or mountainbike.
